Trained in Title IX, the CEEO grievance process, and the UNM Administrative Hearing Procedures, UNM Advisors provide guidance and information to students, faculty, or staff who are complainants or respondents in University Administrative Hearings for Civil Rights (+) related matters.
Core Responsibilities
- Meet with party at least 2-3 times throughout the hearing process, at the party’s discretion
- Explain the UNM hearing process and the Administrative Hearing Procedures
- Attend the virtual pre-hearing conference and virtual hearing
- Conduct cross examination at the virtual hearing
- Develop case strategy with advisee, if requested
- Review CEEO’s Investigative Report, evidence, and hearing documents
- Direct and cross-examination question preparation, if requested
UNM Advisors Do Not
- Represent the complainant/respondent as their attorney
- Make decisions for, or on behalf of, the complainant/respondent
- Take actions for, or on behalf of, the complainant/respondent
- Assist with appeals of written determinations
- Advise on Employee Appeals
